Motion Detector Sprinkler – Raccoon Repellent

One new innovative and no-fuss way to repel raccoons and keep them from feasting on your trash is to use a motion detector sprinkler. The sprinkler uses water so it is a safe, effective and humane way to keep raccoons out of the yard.

The motion detector sprinkler has an infrared sensor that can sense the movement and heat signature of animals within 35 feet. Most units cover up to 1,000 square feet in total but can be adjusted to give shorter bursts for smaller areas. The goal of the sprinkler is to startle raccoons that pass in front of the sensor’s field by shooting a quick burst of water in the direction of the animal and creating noise when it activates.

Also, the unit is designed to have random sensitivity settings and sprinkler patterns so raccoons cannot become accustomed to it over time.

A motion detector sprinkler can startle raccoons and work as an effective raccoon repellent.

Most units come with a mount stake, a hose attachment and the sprinkler itself. Since it runs on a 9-volt battery, it can be placed anywhere in the yard where it can be most effective. Once a spot has been found in the yard to place it, the unit can be easily entrenched into the ground using the mount stake and attached to a lawn hose with the hose attachment. The sprinkler unit is then placed on top of the stake and adjusted based on the level of coverage needed and type of water burst desired.

The units are economical since they can last up to six months on one battery. They also conserve water by only using two to three cups per deterrence. They are also designed to not just repel raccoons, but animals of all sizes and can be adjusted so that the water reaches shorter distances for smaller animals and longer distances for larger animals. Finally, they are an excellent alternative for those who are short on time to design an effective raccoon deterrent. For these folks, these units could also be considered a great way to reduce the amount of time one needs to water their lawn too!
